PASTOR’S WEEKLY MESSAGE

This coming Sunday is the 11th Sunday after Pentecost.  The gospel for the worship service on August 9th is Matthew 14:22-33.  Pastor Hout’s sermon theme will be “Take Heart.”  Join us for Sunday worship services at 10:30 (led by the pipe organ) and noon (led by guitar).  We also have Sunday School at 9am each week.  You are invited to join us as we learn about ourselves and God.
 

We do not want to forget Hobby Kinderdine  He was quite a guy.  Not only was he a fine man and regularly at worship here at St. Jacob, but he was also the first guy to kick an extra point in the NFL!!!  He played for the Dayton Triangles and sat in the last pew on the pulpit side.  His birthday is August 13th and we want to highlight him on the Sunday before that date, which is August 9th.  Guess what?  We will have some of his Triangle jerseys here in worship that day.  Come join us as we give thanks to God for our many blessings and memories.
 

Bible School was so fantastic  What a great week.  It was a big and great week, indeed.  We met every evening from 6-8:30 with theme “LIGHT.”  Thanks for your prayers for us.  God blessed us in so many ways with our crafts and lessons and music and snacks and recreation time.  Our daily themes were - God’s light knows us, God’s light forgives, God’s light guides, God’s light serves and Shine Your LIGHT!!!
 

Junior Choir  Wow, did we have a boatload of children here recently.  Once we saw that, we put them all to good use during our special music.  Pastor Hout played the guitar and watched as they were so fabulous with their singing and dancing.  What an inspiring time for St. Jacob!!!
 

July 4th weekend  It was great to have lots of celebrating on this July 4th weekend.  Sidney Wagner was back on the pipe organ again.  The congregation was singing a lot of national hymns.  And Pastor Hout was out singing God Bless America all over the place.  Yes, this 205 place was enjoying celebrating the 250.  
 

World Juggling Day  We are so excited how this annual event turned out.  It seemed like we would only have a few participants but we ended up with a nice crowd as people came from a number of locations.  We had people here from Columbus, Piqua, Middletown, Tipp City, Dayton, Chilllicothe, Yellow Springs and, of course, Miamisburg.  It was a little wet as we got started but the day kept getting better and better.  It was wonderful to hear people cheering us on and to have cars go by and honking at us for support!!!
 

Our recent Talent Show was terrific  We had a good time and shared a lot of talent.  Many thanks to all who participated.  The food was yummy and the acts were funny.  We say big thank yous to those with serious acts like Hazel Bruns, Olivia Gore, Cameron Reed, Lisa Boyd and Evan Jackle.  Pastor Hout says thanks to David Gore for his amazing rhythm stick work on their duet.  We also loved seeing the art work of Isla Jackle and the fantastic sewing of Laura Gore.
 

The Prayers of the Church  We are so happy to report that no one from St. Jacob (that we know of) is in the hospital right now.  We are still praying for Allen Hasken and Sidney Wagner.  They are getting stronger every day.  So is Nancy Allikas and Dawn Warrick.  Others in our prayers include Carl Schroeder, Paul Schultz, Steve Kash, Jean Hicks, Bill Jackle, Katie Schultz and family, Frankie Rost, Lois Masters, Helen Termuhlen, and  Wyatt Dahlinghaus.  Peace is also on our minds and we pray for that along with our peacemakers Zac Boyd, Alex Eanes, Steven Greenlee and Ben Sweeney.
 

Our Prayer of the Day - 11th Sunday after Pentecost O God our defender, storms rage around and within us and cause us to be afraid.  rescue ytour people from despair, deliver your sons and daughters from fear, and preseerve us in the faith of youre Son, Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord.  Amen.
 

Easter Sunday was great and also Holy Hilarity Sunday and Pentecost  We have finished the Easter Season and now are in the long season of Pentecost.  But we never want to forget that He has risen.....he has risen, indeed!!!

Love is perhaps the only glimpse we are permitted of eternity.
